The 63-year-old suspect was arrested in Casablanca, a security source indicated, noting that a check in the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database revealed that the suspect was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the National Central Bureau in Oslo for his alleged involvement in a tax evasion case.
According to preliminary investigation data, the same source continues, the accused embezzled funds totalling 500 million Norwegian kroner belonging to the Norwegian government by submitting false invoices to justify VAT refunds for a group of his private companies.
The suspect has been subjected to legal procedures related to the extradition process, while the Interpol-Rabat National Central Bureau, under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), has been tasked with notifying its Norwegian counterpart of the arrest.
The suspect's arrest is part of international security cooperation, as well as efforts made by Moroccan security services to pursue individuals wanted internationally for cross-border crimes.
