Elements of the Casablanca judicial police prefectural service proceeded, on Thursday, to the arrest of a French national of Algerian origin (38 years old) subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities, with a view to the execution of a custodial sentence after his conviction in a case of serious assault and battery.
The suspect was arrested in Casablanca, indicates a security source, noting that the check operation in the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) revealed that he was the subject of a red notice issued for the execution of a prison sentence, pronounced against him in mid-2024 by the French justice system, in a case of assault on several people with a bladed weapon.
The accused has been placed in police custody on the orders of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, within the framework of the extradition procedure in accordance with national legislation and international conventions on the matter.
This arrest is part of the active and effective commitment of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) to bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in terms of pursuing persons wanted internationally for cross-border crimes, concludes the same source.
