Casablanca – The 20th session of the International Poultry Council (IPC) conference began today, Tuesday, in Casablanca, chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari.
In a speech on this occasion, Mr. El Bouari emphasised that the holding of this conference, for the first time in Morocco, reflects the Kingdom's growing status in the poultry sector and the significant growth opportunities on the African continent.
The Minister praised the pivotal role played by the International Poultry Council as a global platform for exchanging expertise, developing standards, and promoting poultry trade.
He also stressed the importance of the sector as a fundamental pillar for food security, economic development, and job creation, highlighting Morocco's efforts to ensure the sustainability and quality of poultry products.
In this regard, Mr. El Bouari reviewed the significant growth witnessed by the poultry sector in Morocco thanks to the public-private partnership, noting the current challenges facing the sector, including market fluctuations, health crises, and the need to promote sustainable development.
He stressed the importance of this meeting in strengthening international cooperation and exchanging best practices, highlighting Morocco's role in this field as a bridge to Africa, through its presidency of the Confederation of African Poultry Associations, while striving to achieve food self-sufficiency and boost local production on the continent.
After calling for the need to adopt innovation, strengthen training, and promote South-South cooperation as fundamental pillars for the future of the poultry sector, Mr. El Bouari confirmed Morocco's full commitment to supporting this dynamic.
For his part, the President of the International Poultry Council, Ricardo Santin, highlighted the growth prospects of the global poultry sector, noting that poultry will become the most consumed animal protein globally by 2025, with an expected production of 104 million tonnes.
Santin said, "Poultry is not only the most cost-effective protein for consumers, but also the most sustainable," considering that this sector plays a pivotal role in addressing global food challenges.
He added, "Our common goal is to produce food and provide essential nutrients to the people of our countries, while helping other nations. This is our responsibility in the face of global food challenges."
This conference, organised until April 10 in partnership with the Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector in Morocco (FISA), brings together major global players in the poultry sector, government officials, directors and leaders of major international companies, and experts, in addition to representatives of the Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector.
The programme of the 20th International Poultry Council conference includes plenary sessions, presentations, and technical workshops led by prominent international experts, as well as field visits to local poultry production facilities, with the aim of informing participants about the latest innovations and techniques adopted in this field in Morocco, in addition to providing excellent opportunities for networking and building partnerships between various actors in the sector.
The International Poultry Council (IPC) represents more than 88 percent of global poultry meat production and 95 percent of international trade in this sector. It also plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable solutions based on scientific research, with the aim of improving production systems, ensuring food security, and fostering dialogue between producers and regulatory bodies.
The Council is also considered a strategic partner for a number of international organisations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
