Even for showering, the water is too dirty. Welcome to Tahanaout, where water, this blue gold intended for consumption, is drastically lacking. To quench the thirst that is beginning to grip them, the population of this town is forced to travel long distances and queue in front of rare springs to drink.
Faced with this situation, the inhabitants decided to hold a sit-in on Friday, 29 November, in front of the Al Haouz provincial prefecture, while pointing the finger at the regional directorate of the National Office for Potable Water. Is it the fault of the heavens or the disengagement of local officials from the Office?
Whatever the answer, emergency measures must be taken to curb this situation which affects one of the most important regions of Morocco, nestled in the hollow of the High Atlas mountains and near the Lalla Takerkoust dam. Ultimately, dying of thirst when one has one's feet in the water leaves one in great perplexity.
