222 million DH for drinking water projects in rural areas

An amount of 222 million DH was allocated between 2008 and 2012 for the implementation of drinking water supply projects for the benefit of 263 Douars under several rural communes in the Chtouka Aït Baha province.

An envelope of 74 million DH was dedicated to the drinking water supply of 173 Douars from the treatment plant built on the Ahl Souss dam, indicates a statement from the province, citing data from its technical service.

The Douars benefiting from this operation are those in the communes of Aït Mzal, Sidi Abdallah Bouchouari, Aït Oued Rim, Imi Mkourn, and Sidi Bousshab.

An amount of 96 million DH was also released to ensure the supply of this vital commodity, from the Youssef Ibn Tachefine dam, for the benefit of 111 Douars in the communes of Aït Milak and Belfaâ.

These projects, connected to the same dam, also benefited 15 Douars in the communes of Massa and Sidi Ouassay for a total cost of 52 million DH.

The statement maintains that these projects, carried out within the framework of a partnership between the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, the concerned communes, and the beneficiary inhabitants, have contributed significantly to settlement in many remote mountainous areas.

They have also helped to alleviate the suffering of large segments of society, particularly women and children, to set up hydraulic installations in the target areas, and to improve the quality of services.

With the completion of these projects, the drinking water supply rate in the Chtouka Aït Baha province has reached 90 per cent.
