The Sub-regional Office of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) for North Africa will hold its 30th Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) from 3 to 6 March in Rabat, on the theme "Implementation of Africa's Agenda 2063: planning, resource mobilisation, and financing for development".
During this meeting, participants will study the 2014 report on the evolution of economic and social conditions in North Africa, the 2014 country profiles, regional and international agendas including special initiatives for North Africa, the 2014 activity report of the Sub-regional Office, and its draft work programme for the 2016-2017 period, noted a recent press release from the ECA, a United Nations body.
They will also address various themes including regional integration with a particular focus on "Trade for industrialisation", the development of regional value chains, transport, and trade facilitation in North Africa.
The recommendations of the meeting will be submitted to the ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development (CoM2015), scheduled in Addis Ababa from 30 to 31 March 2015, the same source notes.
In parallel with the ICE, the Office will organise a meeting of experts (EGM) to study strategies for the development of an inclusive green economy in North Africa, the press release specifies, adding that during this meeting, participants will analyse the different national visions and policies related to this field, the correlation between industry and the green economy, as well as the perception, practices, and expectations of economic actors in this matter.
The ECA Office for North Africa has the mission of supporting the development of the seven countries of the sub-region (Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Tunisia, and Sudan) by helping them to formulate and implement policies and programmes capable of contributing to their economic and social transformation.
Its areas of activity include, according to the ECA, the analysis of economic and social development dynamics and regional integration, sustainable development, climate change and food security, technologies, innovation, knowledge management, and access to quality statistical data.
A statutory body responsible for supervising the activities of the Office, the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts, which is composed of representatives of the governments of the seven countries of the sub-region, annually examines the activity report of the ECA Sub-regional Office, its short- and medium-term action plans, and the strategic orientations of the ECA for the North Africa sub-region.
High-ranking officials, experts, researchers, business people, and civil society actors from North Africa will take part in this meeting.
