Each city experiences Ramadan in its own way according to local customs. This holy month influences habits and behaviours, but it remains the month of generosity, charitable actions, solidarity, and piety. The seaside city strives during this month of reflection to reconcile the pleasures of the summer season with the particular and convivial atmosphere of Ramadan. Throughout the arteries and boulevards of Mohammedia, tents have been set up to welcome the underprivileged for the f'tour. Charitable actions are multiplying and becoming a solid tradition that contributes to the development process through the consolidation of social action. Associations join the solidarity movement for the benefit of the sick, the elderly, those without support, as well as the needy. Awareness-raising operations for certain diseases are also organised to inform and help the sick. The city comes alive with a new daily rhythm. The various mosques, refurbished for the occasion, welcome thousands of worshippers of all ages who come to pray and reflect. An atmosphere of self-denial, charity, and fraternity adds to the intensity of this month of fervour.

The heat and long days of the month of Ramadan, which coincided with the summer season, do not discourage the inhabitants who flock to the city's well-stocked markets. Trade is flourishing and new trades are proliferating; one finds all the delicacies prepared for the occasion of the holy month. "Fish, which is highly consumed during this period, has prices that are not within everyone's reach. With my limited means, I am forced to fall back on white meat," indicates a mother.

For example, the price of sardines has soared and sometimes reaches up to 30 DH per kilo. The breaking of the fast is one of the most anticipated moments. It is a whole ceremony. The occasion for all members of the family to gather in a climate of relaxation and gaiety, and to savour various dishes, and Moroccan gastronomic specialities, as well as "special Ramadan" dishes.

After the ftour, some watch TV while others meet, after the Taraouih prayer, around a coffee. The corniche and the park of the twin city square are very popular. Sport is one of the major occupations of the inhabitants. However, as a holidaymaker points out, efforts must be directed towards the programming of religious and artistic activities. The holy month of Ramadan should encourage the relevant services to organise Quran recitation competitions, cultural activities, and sporting events. It would also be desirable, in this month of solidarity, to organise visits to the hospital, to the residents of the Muslim charity society, to the elderly and underprivileged, and to the prison as well, in order to bring comfort to a population that is marginalised by definition.
