"Memory of Marrakech: Portraits in the history of the art of the halqa on the Jamaa Lafna Square" is the title of a new two-volume work that Abderrahmane El Malhouni has just published with the "Afaqedit" publishing house for studies, publication, and communication. This 528-page title (large format) contains precious information that invites the reader to dive into this mythical square, classified as a world heritage site of humanity, and to discover its meanders, its popular traditions, its authors, and its protagonists.
Structured around 22 chapters, the work returns with many details on the history of Jamaa Lafna and its particularities as an original space for artistic expression and the deployment of oral culture, notably through the art of the halqa, its tales and storytellers, its artists and musicians. Published with the support of the Ministry of Culture, this work is intended to be a reference for knowing the history of the ochre city up close and discovering the different facets of its popular culture.
