Al-Alam Electronic - Fikri Ould Ali
Continuing the positive momentum experienced by the Free University of Education, the founding assembly of the local Atsafet-Kasita branch of the Free University of Education in the Driouch province was held at the Kasita Youth Centre on 8 December 2024, in the presence of a large number of union activists who participated in the activities of this founding assembly.
The meeting was distinguished by the discussion of a group of issues that occupy educational public opinion at the provincial, regional, and national levels. The assembly opened with a speech by the coordinator of the preparatory committee, Professor Mohamed El Ajouri, who welcomed the attendees and reviewed the general context that created the need to establish the local branch.
This was followed by a speech by Professor Ahmed Baali, a member of the executive office of the Free University of Education, who emphasised the historical role of the university as a real space for practising serious union work, far from methods of exploiting crises. He also reviewed the most prominent conclusions of the last National Council of the University, held in Bouznika on 28, 29, and 30 November 2024, stressing the importance of preserving gains and defending the rights of educational workers.
For his part, Professor Yasser El Sabab, coordinator of the preparatory committee for establishing local offices in the Driouch directorate, touched on the necessity of unifying efforts among the activists of the Free University of Education to achieve strong advocacy for the interests of educational workers. He also pointed to the credibility enjoyed by the university, which prompted many activists to choose to work within its organisational structures.
After listening to the interventions of the professors present and discussing their questions related to the strike law and the position of the Free University of Education, which operates under the banner of the General Union of Workers in Morocco, the election of the members of the Atsafet-Kasita branch office took place in a democratic atmosphere, and the process resulted in the following composition:

At the conclusion of the general assembly, the members of the elected office expressed their awareness of the scale of the responsibility placed upon them, and confirmed their commitment to implementing a work programme that aligns with the principles and goals of the Free University of Education. They also renewed their readiness for serious advocacy and defence of the rights and demands of women and men in education.
