A Ramadan full of piety... and culture

A Ramadan full of piety... and culture

The Casablanca public has an appointment until tomorrow, Friday, with the ninth edition of the Ramadaniat Al-Baida festival. Organised by the Sidi Belyout arrondissement in partnership with the city council, this event, which has now become annual, aims to animate the areas where its acts take place and to create a dynamic and cultural and artistic animation. Plays, musical shows, sporting and social activities are scheduled during this edition, organised in various spaces such as the Cultural Complex of Sidi Belyout and the Higher School of Fine Arts. Opening the ball on Friday, July 11, with an evening dedicated to Andalusian music and Malhoun, as well as a fashion show of traditional creations, the festival allowed many visitors to appreciate the talent of the singers who interpreted a secular artistic heritage. The public thus enjoyed religious songs presented by local groups. By programming the singing of praises to the Prophet, the organisers highlighted an artistic tradition that is highly coveted in this holy month. For the second day of the festivities, the Higher School of Fine Arts hosted an Arabic calligraphy salon, organised in partnership with the Bassamat Fine Arts Association. Sporting activities were not left out, since during the same day, two martial arts competitions were scheduled, to the great delight of young athletes. Still under the sign of spirituality, the Sidi Belyout arrondissement hosted a Quran recitation competition, allowing visitors to celebrate the tradition of reciting the Holy Book during the month of Ramadan. The Casablanca public also had the right to plays, since on Monday the "Masrah Arklan" troupe performed on the stage of the Sidi Belyout complex, with a play dedicated to children. The Ramadaniat Al-Baida Festival promises a surprising marriage between music and other arts such as poetry.

Thus, the Tuesday evening was devoted to poetry recitals, with the participation of several Moroccan poets. In parallel, several workshops were organised in different fields, such as plastic art or sound and lighting techniques in theatre, or even the screening of feature films. The inhabitants of the arrondissement and the people of Casablanca in search of places of entertainment have

been able and can still distract themselves during this festival, which closes in two days, in order to meet artists who have sharpened their weapons on the national stage. A rich cultural programme The artistic and cultural activities of Sidi Belyout follow one another and are not alike. The arrondissement vibrated during the month of May to the rhythms of the fifth edition of the "Spring of Sidi Belyout" festival. The event was organised by the council of the said arrondissement in partnership with the communal council of the city of Casablanca. Anxious to offer a dynamic image of cultural animation in this part of the metropolis, the arrondissement multiplies events and meetings with the public. Several other sporting and social activities are also scheduled throughout the year.
