Goldsmithing in the spotlight in Tiznit

Goldsmithing in the spotlight in Tiznit

The 6th Festival is marked by the exhibition of the largest silver fibula (Khlala, Tazarzit), manufactured over more than 7 months by eight artisans.

The 6th edition of the Timizart Silver Festival, held under the theme "Silver goldsmithing: identity, creativity, and development," opened on Thursday evening in Tiznit.

The opening concert, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatima Marouane, and the Governor of the province of Tiznit, Samir El Yazidi, was hosted by several folklore groups.

This edition is marked by the exhibition of the largest silver fibula (Khlala, Tazarzit), manufactured over more than 7 months by eight artisans who applied the majority of the craft techniques of silver goldsmithing to it.

Within the framework of the Festival's openness to foreign countries, this edition sees the participation of Italy as guest of honour, which promotes technology transfer in the field of silver goldsmithing.

The fair organised within the framework of this event provides for the participation of several exhibitors from several cities in Morocco, notably Guelmim, Assa, Chichaoua, Fez, and Meknes, as well as those from Tiznit who will present a panoply of jewellery and silver objects reflecting the dexterity of Moroccan silver artisans.

On the menu for this edition are also fashion shows of traditional clothing and jewellery, academic conferences dealing with the Amazigh anthropological and civilisational aspects of silver and the role of collective museums in sustainable development, and for the first time, a Tourist Tour by bicycle through the city and its rural regions.

The organisers are counting on an influx of 200,000 visitors, a figure recorded during the previous edition. They intend to capitalise on the now established reputation of Tiznit as the indisputable capital of silver goldsmithing.

The Festival is an initiative of the Timizart Silver Association, in collaboration with the Chamber of Handicrafts, the municipality and the Provincial Council of Tiznit, the Maison de l'Artisan, as well as the support of other public and private partners.
