Rainy season: SRM Casablanca-Settat intensifies its prevention actions
From September 2025 to the end of August 2026, operations carried out by the teams of SRM Casablanca-Settat have resulted in the hydraulic cleaning of over 3,167 km of wastewater networks. Rainwater: As the rainy season approaches, SRM Casablanca-Settat is strengthening its preventive measures with the cleaning of over 3,167 km of networks, the cleaning of over 293,000 inspection chambers and collection structures, and the mobilisation of 685 agents and 203 intervention equipment, in order to prevent overflow risks and ensure the proper flow of rainwater across the region. The Regional Multiservices Company (SRM) Casablanca-Settat continues its preparatory actions for the rainy season as part of its annual preventive maintenance programme for wastewater networks and structures. Carried out throughout the year, these operations intensify as the rains approach, in order to strengthen the network's capacity and performance, ensure the proper flow of water, and limit overflow risks during rainfall. In addition to strengthening human and material resources, this preventive system includes network cleaning, maintenance of structures, and treatment of sensitive points throughout the region, in coordination with local authorities. “Today, all our human and material resources are mobilised and positioned to cover sensitive points and intervene if necessary. This mobilisation is based on an organisation adapted to different situations and close coordination with local authorities as well as our 12 provincial and prefectural directorates,” states Kamal Gragai, Director of Wastewater Operations at SRM Casablanca-Settat. This annual programme, intensified and strengthened as the rains approach, reflects SRM Casablanca-Settat's commitment to continuing its prevention efforts and improving its intervention capabilities to best serve the region's inhabitants. An intensified annual programme as the rains approach From September 2025 to the end of August 2026, operations carried out by the teams of SRM Casablanca-Settat have resulted in the hydraulic cleaning of over 3,167 km of wastewater networks, representing 25% of the regional network's length, compared to 6% in 2024, at the start of its activities. To sustain this approach, the regional company is committed to maintaining this cleaning rate each year. During this period, over 293,000 inspection chambers and rainwater collection structures have been manually cleaned, and approximately 38,200 tonnes of waste have been removed from the networks, equivalent to the load of over 1,300 semi-trailers. Over 70 grouped hydraulic cleaning campaigns have also been carried out by watershed. In recent weeks, operations have intensified: in just five months (from April to the end of August 2026), over 1,351 km of networks have been cleaned, over 119,000 inspection chambers and structures cleaned, and nearly 16,800 tonnes of waste evacuated, equivalent to the load of over 580 semi-trailers. Over 36 collective campaigns have been carried out by watershed during this period. These interventions are deployed in the various prefectural and provincial directorates of SRM Casablanca-Settat, including Casa-Anfa-El Fida, Aïn Sebaâ–Hay Mohammadi, Aïn Chock-Hay Hassani, Ben M’Sick–Sidi Othmane, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Médiouna, Benslimane, Berrechid, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, and Settat. Maintenance of structures and treatment of sensitive points The programme also includes the maintenance of rainwater collection and evacuation equipment. In this regard, 36 black spots have been treated through structuring projects and targeted operational interventions. Over 134 operations for the maintenance and cleaning of storm drains have been carried out during the same period, and 20 strategic structures, including pumping stations and manholes, have undergone inspection and maintenance. SRM Casablanca-Settat also ensures the continuous cleaning and monitoring of 168 rainwater outfalls. Operations carried out at pumping stations include approximately 1,800 hydraulic and manual cleaning interventions, over 2,800 clearing operations for bar screens, 536 pump clearing operations, and over 2,600 maintenance interventions for electrical equipment, automation, and electromechanical installations. This has made it possible to evacuate, in five months, approximately 17,500 tonnes of waste from pumping stations. Approximately 700 agents mobilised The intervention system during the rainy season mobilises 685 people, including 476 employees of SRM Casablanca-Settat and 209 subcontracted agents. This workforce includes 59 specialised managers, 70 supervisors, and 556 agents responsible for field interventions, maintenance, and monitoring of sensitive points. To strengthen teams and develop their skills, the regional company has recruited 95 new qualified agents and provided 8,784 hours of training. On the technical side, 203 intervention equipment are mobilised: 38 vacuum trucks, 13 mini-vacuum trucks, 61 pumps and motor pumps, 21 generator sets, 20 lifting platforms, 29 other vehicles, and 21 complementary equipment. The fleet has also been strengthened by the acquisition of five combination vacuum trucks by the end of 2025. 28 combination vacuum trucks and 25 high-flow pumps are currently being delivered.
