Rabat hosts the 1st edition of the Euro-Mediterranean Philatelic Symposium
The first edition of the Euro-Mediterranean Philatelic Symposium was held on Monday in Rabat, at the initiative of Barid Al-Maghrib and under the aegis of the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), with the theme "Innovation and collaboration: reinventing philately in the Mediterranean".

This meeting aims to reposition philately as a vector for intercultural dialogue, creativity, and digital transformation, with debates on topics such as blockchain, crypto-stamps, NFTs, artificial intelligence, and immersive content.

In a statement to the press, the Director of Public Service, Regulation, and Institutional Relations at Barid Al-Maghrib, Ikram Taibi, indicated that this Symposium constitutes an essential platform bringing together experts from 22 countries to discuss the future of philately in the Mediterranean.

To this end, she highlighted key issues for the future of this field, notably the digital transformation of postal services and the need to reinvent the philatelic offering to generate public interest.

Furthermore, Ms. Taibi announced that a commemorative postage stamp dedicated to authentic Moroccan zellige will be unveiled on this occasion, noting that it is a collaborative work between artisans, embodying the values of innovation and cooperation promoted by the event.

For her part, the Chair of the PUMed Board of Directors, Nermine Hassan, emphasised the importance of these exchanges to strengthen interregional cooperation in this area, specifying that this event represents a unique opportunity to value local initiatives and promote participatory democracy. Ms. Hassan also returned to the role of cultural enterprises, described as "ambassadors of history and culture", highlighting their essential contribution to the promotion of heritage and innovation.

On the sidelines of the Symposium, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Barid Al-Maghrib and PTT Turkish Post, strengthening their 2018 partnership and aiming to deepen their collaboration.
The statutory meetings of PUMed constitute, for their part, an opportunity to take stock of ongoing initiatives and to consolidate the prospects for postal cooperation in the Mediterranean region.

Held on the sidelines of the 58th meeting of the Board of Directors and the 20th General Assembly of PUMed, this event, organised by Barid Al-Maghrib as a member of the Board of Directors and chair of the Union's Philatelic Group for the 2023-2025 cycle, brought together experts from diverse backgrounds – postal administrations, the digital sector, and printers – for a constructive exchange on the challenges of innovation and cooperation in the philatelic field.
