Rabat – The 3rd session of the bilateral dialogue in the religious field between Morocco and Austria was held from April 7 to 10 in Rabat, in application of the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2022 between the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs and the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria.
The program for this session was marked by the organization, at the Ministry's headquarters, of a scientific conference under the theme "The reality of interfaith dialogue and ways to strengthen it and achieve its goals," which saw the participation of experts and scientists from both countries, indicates a statement from the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs.
Members of the Austrian delegation were received by the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry's headquarters, the same source notes, adding that the bilateral dialogue in the religious field is part of an integrated strategic dialogue encompassing all aspects and areas of common interest.
During this session, both parties welcomed the strategic relations linking Morocco and Austria, emphasizing that this dialogue constitutes an extension and consolidation of the bilateral relations that date back more than 2 centuries.
Speakers from both parties also highlighted a series of challenges facing interfaith and intercultural dialogue, citing some examples as well as successful practices, the statement adds.
The Austrian delegation visited the international exhibition and museum of the Prophet's Sîrah at the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), where delegation members learned about the infrastructure and roles of this institution and Dar El Hadith El Hassania.
Before traveling to Fes, members of the delegation also visited the Al Mowafaqa Ecumenical Institute of Theology in Rabat, which represents a place for reflection and strengthening interfaith dialogue and constitutes "an example embodying the climate of peace and brotherhood that prevails between the various religious communities in Morocco."
Members of the Austrian delegation then visited the Al Quaraouiyine University in Fes, where they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation regarding student training and the legal framework necessary for intellectual cooperation with Austrian universities, the same source notes, indicating that the delegation also visited the iconic religious monuments of this city.
The Moroccan and Austrian parties agreed to continue virtual exchange by exploring the option of producing a joint work containing the results and achievements of the three sessions of the bilateral dialogue in the religious field.
