Air transport is on the rise

The number of passengers on domestic flights provided by the national company Royal Air Maroc (RAM) for Ouarzazate reached 3,050 during last August, an increase of 55% compared to the same period of the previous year. This evolution is a consequence of the implementation of the Convention relating to the strengthening of air service between Casablanca and Ouarzazate, with a view to increasing it to seven weekly flights, specifies the Provincial Tourism Council (CPT). It is necessary to recall, in this regard, that the fare charged for the flights subject to the said convention is 1,200 dirhams round trip between Casablanca and Ouarzazate. The strengthening of flights, which started on June 16, has allowed a considerable evolution in the flow of passengers, including +42% in June and +28% in July, according to the same source.

The air services scheduled soon from Marrakech and Madrid will undoubtedly contribute to improving the performance of the attendance at Ouarzazate airport and will have a positive impact on the tourism sector in the region.

In this context, the national carrier will launch a new connection between Marrakech and Ouarzazate next September, at a rate of three frequencies per week. It should be noted that film producers had called, last May, for better air service to "The Mecca of the film industry" whose studios have become the second global destination for film shoots.

It should be recalled that the capital of the 7th Moroccan art recorded some 172,454 tourist arrivals during the first seven months of 2014, an increase of 17% compared to the same period of the previous year.
