"Moroccans", theme of a photography exhibition

The Galerie 127 in Marrakech, a space exclusively reserved for contemporary photography, is organising a collective exhibition entitled "Moroccans" from September 9 to 28.

The exhibition brings together the works of six talented artist-photographers, namely Daoud Aoulad-Syad, Jamal Benabdesslam, Hicham Benohoud, Hicham Gardaf, Malik Nejmi and Khalid Nemmaoui.

Proposing portraits, landscapes, still lifes, scenes of life and as many other subjects and artistic approaches, this exhibition is intended as an invitation to discover or rediscover certain artists of the Moroccan photographic scene of the last twenty years.

Indeed, whether it is through the inaugural exhibition of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, that of contemporary Morocco at the Arab World Institute (IMA) in Paris or even the exhibition "A Morocco told differently", which the Galerie 127 is organising next November in Paris during the Month of Photography 2014, the opportunities are not lacking to affirm that Moroccan photography is today on the way to finding its rightful place in the international artistic scene.

It should be noted that Marrakech has always been a fertile ground for the emergence of renowned artist-photographers and that the ochre city will be equipped, by 2016, with the largest independent museum dedicated to photography.

Designed by the British architect David Chipperfield, the Museum of Photography and Visual Arts of Marrakech (MMPVA) is a more than ambitious project. With its 6,000 m2 of covered surface, the Museum intends to equip itself with exhibition halls, a theatre, a bookshop, a café and other outbuildings.
