Promises made over the last few years still remain unfulfilled. The Polydisciplinary Faculty of Errachidia (FPE) is still waiting for the translation into action of all the so-called programmes for its completion. Here is a faculty that still lives, after ten years of existence, with the bitter taste of the unfinished.
With its 7,000 students in 2015, the FPE has more than doubled its initial enrolment, certainly, but without this being accompanied, in reality, by an effort in terms of infrastructure. The deficit noted is flagrant in terms of study rooms, lecture halls, department premises, laboratories, covered walkways, parking, and even electricity! The last promise not yet kept by the ministry was the construction of a large lecture hall for 600 people. The list of demands from students as well as professors highlights this issue of a permanent construction site and a patent lack of basic infrastructure, impacting the continuation of studies under normal conditions.
For their part, the ongoing works are dragging on and will visibly not see the light of day soon. All this is aggravated by a very limited educational offer, which in no way meets the needs of the students of the region. The number of staff is, over the years, in continuous increase. As for scientific research, it is in this type of establishment only the fruit of a purely individual effort.
For such a region, with its cultural and civilisational depth, the educational offer should rather diversify in order to also overcome the difficulties of admission in Meknes, Fez, or even Rabat. But the most urgent thing at the moment, according to all stakeholders, is above all to allocate an exceptional budget, capable of allowing the completion of all the sites and putting an end to a soap opera of bad taste.
"We are following with concern the situation prevailing within this faculty; after ten years, there are still construction sites, it seems that this is the fate of this establishment, whereas we wanted it to be one of the locomotives for development," stresses a member of the National Union of Higher Education. What a long way to go!
