Bejaâd city

Bejaâd (in Arabic: أبي الجعد) is a town in Morocco, located in the Chaouia-Ouardigha region. It is an important cultural centre. From its inception, it was endowed with a multitude of madrasas that provided Morocco with some of its most eminent ulema. Initially purely religious, the education provided in these madrasas diversified over the centuries. Schools such as that of Sheikh El Mâati, Lâaouina, and especially the Hassania madrasa, the Mohammedia madrasa, and the Alliance Israélite school trained graduates in disciplines as diverse as theology, law, calligraphy, literature, and even poetry and astronomy.
