More than 178 million dirhams will be devoted to the strengthening and upgrading of the urban structures of the White City. This emerged from the extraordinary session of the Asilah municipal council, held on Tuesday, 3 November, to study and examine the draft agreement relating to the integrated urban development programme of Asilah.

This agreement will be signed by four ministerial departments as well as the relevant local partners. These various partners are committed to working together to implement the Asilah urban development programme, which is part of the 23 integrated city policy projects for a total amount of nearly 9 billion DH. "This major urban restructuring project will start first in Asilah before continuing in other cities in the Tangier-Tetouan region," according to those in charge of this file.

Like other cities targeted under the city policy, the integrated urban development programme of Asilah will be structured around several major projects in various sectors. This integrated programme will be carried out thanks to the mobilisation of various partners, notably the Ministry of Housing (20 million DH), the Asilah Forum (88 million DH), the Department of National Education (more than 16 million DH), the Asilah municipal council (nearly 39 million DH), the Tangier Chamber of Crafts (1 million DH), as well as the two departments of Crafts (4 million DH) and Youth and Sports (more than 10 million DH).

The implementation of this urban restructuring plan for the White City will allow for the realisation of several projects, in particular the upgrading of under-equipped neighbourhoods, a covered sports hall and a sports centre for young people, the construction of a craft complex, the realisation of the new bus station project, the creation of a high school, two middle schools, and two primary schools, as well as the rehabilitation of the premises of three primary education establishments.

It should be noted that the budget of more than 178 million DH, devoted to the Asilah urban restructuring project, will be revised upwards as this integrated programme progresses.
