About Ain Bni Mathar
Ain Bni Mathar is a Moroccan town in the Jerada province, in the Oriental region.
It has a total population of 13,526 inhabitants (2004).
This town, located 80 kilometres south of Oujda, saw the birth of the first hybrid power station in the Cherifian Kingdom. This solar-thermal power station allows the Kingdom to diversify its energy resources and support the country's economic growth. It is on the lands of Ain Beni Mathar, dominated by a plateau located at nearly 500 metres of altitude, that the "Beni Guil" sheep breed is raised, renowned for its high-quality wool. Ain Béni Mathar supplies the entire region with sheep and more generally with livestock. Located near the Ras El Aïn spring, the inhabitants of the region take advantage of this water supply, distributed by a network of séguias, to develop market gardening and fodder cultivation on the outskirts of the town.
