The upturn continues in Agadir

The upturn continues in Agadir

The Agadir destination achieved good performance at the end of September 2014. Thus, according to the latest figures from the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Agadir, arrivals increased by 5.29% to 714,084 visitors and the number of overnight stays by 4.49% to 3,648,908 overnight stays. Among the markets that recorded the best scores are Poland (+40.56% for arrivals and +46.58% for overnight stays) and Germany (+23.33% and 12.94%). The domestic market improved by 3.06% for the first indicator and by 7.68% for the second.

In fact, the destination could have shown better performance if activity had not slowed down in September.

At the end of this month, arrivals grew by 2.17% over one year, but overnight stays in classified hotel establishments did not follow. They fell by 2.46% compared to the same period in 2013. "The increase in arrivals is explained by the growth of the German (+31.71% in arrivals and +6.53% in overnight stays) and Polish (+63.21% in arrivals and +43.44% in overnight stays) markets," explains the Agadir CRT.

On the other hand, arrivals from the domestic market recorded a drop of 3.1%, and those from the French and Russian markets, which remain strategic for the destination, fell by 6.21%.

The average length of stay during the month of September recorded a slight decrease, settling at 5.17 days compared to 5.41 in 2013. Note that 29 establishments with a capacity of 14,778 beds recorded an average occupancy rate of 81.94%.

It should be noted that the destination saw, on October 6th, the arrival of the 1st inaugural flight of the Austrian airline Niki Fly connecting Agadir to Vienna. "The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) and the CRT, in collaboration with the company Niki Fly, organized an inaugural flight from October 6th to 9th by inviting 39 participants (journalists, Niki management, winners of a competition, and other personalities)," recalls the Agadir CRT. The latter specifies that a new confirmation has been added regarding the new Tour Operator Heimsferdir, which also plans to set up a charter from Iceland. "It is a first for the destination. This first back-to-back charter from Iceland to Agadir is scheduled to land on October 27th at 12:35 p.m. and will be operated by a Boeing 737-800 of the airline Primera Air, with a capacity of 178 seats, scheduling its flights every ten days," announces the CRT. The inaugural flight will include, among others, journalists and tour operators.
