Tourism activity is holding up in Agadir. Last May, arrivals increased by 6.44% to 83,764 compared to the same month in 2013. But tourist establishments did not fully benefit from this improvement. Overnight stays, in fact, only progressed by 1.18%, reaching 368,199.
The main source markets for the destination performed well. At their head, domestic tourism which shows an increase of 8.84% for arrivals and 12.96% for overnight stays.
Arrivals from Germany improved by 15.2%, against 3.98% and 8.48% for the French and English markets respectively. Despite the increase in the number of tourists from France, overnight stays did not follow. They even regressed by 3.13%, according to the Agadir Regional Tourism Council. The Saudi Arabian market also fell both in terms of arrivals (-8.93%) and overnight stays (-6.63%). The decline was more pronounced on the Russian market side (-40.12% for arrivals and -50.62% for overnight stays).
Similarly, tourists stayed for less time in the city compared to May 2013. The average length of stay was thus established at 4.4 days, down 0.22 days compared to May 2013. The average occupancy rate of classified hotels in the destination also decreased by 2.64% to 52.07%. Twenty hotel establishments with a capacity of 11,556 beds recorded an average rate of 74.22% and 35 with a capacity of 9,808 beds posted a rate of 43.32%, indicates the CRT. Finally, 30 other establishments with a bed capacity of 6,178 achieved a weighted average rate of 16.1%. Thus, only 20 establishments out of 85 achieve occupancy rates higher than 50%.
Furthermore, the cumulative activity for the first 5 months of the year shows an improvement of 7.32% in the number of arrivals which reached 363,232.
Overnight stays progressed by 7.69% to 1,764,106. The average length of stay is thus established at 4.86 days in 2014 against 4.84 a year earlier. Finally, the average occupancy rate rose to 51.85%.
