The kick-off of the 9th edition of the Aesthetic Education Forum, organised by the Faculty of Education Sciences of Mohammed V University in Rabat, under the theme "Public space, education, art, culture", was given on Wednesday in Rabat.
The opening ceremony of this four-day event, which took place at Hassan II Park, was marked by the organisation of a collective exhibition highlighting the artistic creations of students from the Faculty of Education Sciences, including drawings and engravings.
The programme for this edition includes an international conference focused on public space and its relationship with education, art and culture, as well as varied activities covering in particular the fields of cinema, theatre, poetry, visual arts and music, in addition to a master class led by the sculptor artist Ikram Kabbaj.
It also includes an open meeting with playwright Mohamed Kaouti and an artistic exhibition within the Faculty.
In a statement to MAP, the Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences, Abdellatif Kidai, indicated that this forum has become an annual event celebrating student creation, while offering an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the university and its cultural and societal environment through the consecration of the values of aesthetic education.
The theme of this edition, he added, reflects the general orientation of the Faculty which encourages students to open up to public spaces, as a field of interaction and artistic production, noting that the organisation of the opening ceremony in Hassan II Park has strong connotations, especially since Rabat is a global city that hosts major international forums.
"In parallel with the academic training provided to students, the Faculty ensures that theoretical and practical training are combined in the field, through the organisation of meetings and artistic workshops, and the hosting of Moroccan and foreign artists, thus strengthening the presence of students in cultural life," he observed.
For his part, the professor of art education at the Faculty of Education Sciences, Abdullah Muti, stressed that this forum reflects the university's openness to its environment, noting that this annual initiative fosters creative interaction between students and society and establishes an artistic culture open to public space.
He added in a statement to MAP that the choice of a public space such as Hassan II Park to host the forum's activities represents an eloquent educational approach that consecrates the use of public spaces in favour of promoting the values of beauty and art, and gives students the opportunity to present their artistic productions to a diverse public outside the university.
The forum will close with a graduation ceremony for the previous class of the Master's in Aesthetic Education from the Faculty of Education Sciences.
