Tangier – The fourth edition of the “Greater Tangier Ramadan Nights” festival concluded on Saturday evening at the Palace of Arts and Culture in Tangier, which featured a rich and varied programme of cultural, educational, social, and sporting activities.
Over the course of 3 weeks, the “Greater Tangier Ramadan Nights” organised evenings on politics and literature, solidarity visits to residents of social institutions housing vulnerable groups, tourist tours to discover the assets of the Medina of Tangier, evenings of Madih and Samaa art, art exhibitions, and sports tournaments, in addition to honouring a group of pioneers in social, educational, and sporting action in the city.
Intellectually, the event, organised on the initiative of the Greater Tangier Foundation for Educational, Cultural, Social, and Sports Action, was marked by the holding of two seminars on “The Islamic Heritage of the City of Tangier between Valuing Heritage and Preserving Memory” and “The Ethical Employment of the Development of Artificial Intelligence”, in addition to organising a daily collective Iftar and workshops introducing authentic Moroccan customs and traditions.
The Holy Quran memorisation and recitation competition within the “Greater Tangier Ramadan Nights” saw intensive participation of over 3,000 participants of all ages, culminating in the honouring and celebration of a number of memorisers and reciters from the city's Quranic schools (Msids).
In this context, Abdelouahed Boulaich, President of the Greater Tangier Foundation for Educational, Cultural, Social, and Sports Action, praised the “great success” of this edition, which was distinguished by a rich programme covering various fields and sectors that fall within the foundation's interests.
He confirmed, in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) agency, that this edition witnessed “powerful moments”, especially the closing ceremony of the Holy Quran recitation competition thanks to the wide participation, in addition to the closing ceremony which embodied the diversity of the edition's programme, as well as poetry evenings and Madih and Samaa evenings with the participation of a group of pioneers of Moroccan Samaa groups.
Abdelouahed Boulaich explained that the organisation of this festival came from the foundation's desire to contribute to the revitalisation of various facilities and infrastructure that have been opened in the city of Tangier over the past years thanks to the High Royal Solicitude for the city of the Strait.
The closing ceremony was marked by an evening of Andalusian music (Tarab Al-Ala) performed by the artist Mohamed Laroussi accompanied by the Mohamed Larbi Mrabet orchestra, which presented a varied medley of Andalusian and religious muwashshahat, and the honouring of Professor Mohamed Zaitouni Sahraoui, who is considered one of the pioneers and documenters of Tarab Al-Ala, in addition to honouring a group of local figures in various fields.
