The project, led by the Moroccan company G3C for a budget of 27.7 million dirhams, began in 2021. After some interruptions, work restarted in January 2024 and is progressing significantly. No official opening date has yet been announced, but the progress made testifies to an imminent inauguration. Faithful to the original architecture, the restorers have preserved the iconic facade, while the interior is being completely redesigned to host a multitude of cultural events.
With its unique architecture, the "Plaza de Toros" remains one of the most iconic monuments in Tangier. A total budget of 50 million dirhams has been allocated to this project, supported by the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North, in collaboration with the Wilaya of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the Regional Council, and the municipality of Tangier, with the aim of bringing this arena, long left abandoned, back to life.

The future space will include a 7,000-seat theatre, an art exhibition hall, catering areas, as well as a car park and a 120-seat agora. An open-air exhibition space is also among the planned facilities. Thanks to the expertise of Moroccan architects, the building combines the historical heritage of Tangier with elements of modernity, restoring the Plaza de Toros to its former glory.
This project, intended to strengthen the cultural and socio-economic attractiveness of the city, is highly anticipated by the inhabitants. The upcoming inauguration of this place, both rooted in history and looking towards the future, promises to be a landmark moment for Tangier.
