The National School of Commerce and Management of Tangier (ENCGT) organised, last Monday, a conference hosted by the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Executive Training, Professor Lahcen Daoudi, around the theme "The foundations of Islamic banks". The main objectives of this meeting were to raise students' awareness of Islamic finance and to bring together several actors from the region around this theme.
The minister recalled that between 2003 and 2013, the assets of Islamic banks had multiplied by 9, representing an increase of 16%. He emphasised the positive points of Islamic banks considered as participatory banks, estimating that in Morocco, they should provide between 0.5 to 1% of GDP per year. On the sidelines of this meeting, a partnership agreement was signed between the ENCGT and the Moroccan Association of Islamic Economics, a partner of the event.
