APM Terminals celebrates World Safety Day

APM Terminals celebrates World Safety Day

The operator AP Moller Maersk celebrated, last Tuesday at the Tanger Med port, "Global Safety Day" (World Day for Safety and Health at Work), organised across all of the Group's business units.

"Safe at work, safe at home" is the theme chosen for this edition. "This day is an opportunity to remind everyone that safety is everyone's business and that it is the result of our joint efforts. Our ambition is to identify the best practices for each terminal in the West-Med zone in order to achieve excellence in safety," declared Javier Lancha, the new Managing Director of APM Terminals Tangier, to the newspaper "Le Matin".

Thus, the celebration of this day is part of the Group's global strategy, which places safety at the heart of its concerns in order to guarantee a healthy environment in the workplace and to achieve the "zero accident" objective. "Global Safety Day" aims to mobilise all employees of each terminal, their service providers, and all their partners around a culture of safety. This day was an opportunity to raise awareness, but also to celebrate the efforts made thanks to the experience shared between all the platforms.

The establishment, in 2012, of a "Safety Activist" in charge of steering the safety policy was accompanied by the deployment within the company of the best processes currently in force, notably compliance with the OHSAS 18001 standard for occupational health and safety management. This edition was closed with simulation exercises.
