The Pearl of the North is preparing to host a major cultural event, the central theme of which is based on contextual artistic engagement. This is on the occasion of the Tanger 2014 Artistic Trail, the proceedings of which will be held on 21 September under the slogan "Being here". Nearly 30 artists from the Moroccan art scene, including painters, photographers, sculptors, visual artists, musicians, writers, actors, poets, and stylists will, according to the organisers, be invited during this day to take over the spaces—ephemeral territories rich in meaning—in order to showcase their process. Among them are the Marrakchi writer and poet Abdelghani Fennane, the Casablanca singer and composer Malek, the Tetouan painter and sculptor Abdelkrim Ouazzani, the Casablanca actress Amal Ayouch, the Kasrie singer Ihsan R'miki, the Rbati poet Rachid Khaless, the Tangier writer and playwright Zoubeir Benbouchta, the Moroccan-Belgian painter Amina Rezki, and the Tangier sculptor Itaf Benjelloun. This will allow this event to become a unique trail, enabling the discovery of the city's mythical sites, notably the Maison Jnan Kaptan, the Palais Akaaboune, the Méchouar prison, the Synagogue, the Villa Mimi Carpe, and the French consulate. "Six iconic sites of Tangier's architectural heritage are exceptionally opening their doors for a day, for a meeting between an artist and the public," states a press release issued by the "Ssilate" association, the initiator of this event. This meeting constitutes, the organisers continue, an invitation to creation, in the immediacy of the moment and the magic of a place, and a space for expression resolutely anchored in reality. "The artists occupy the spaces to express themselves throughout the day according to their discipline, their perception and interpretation making each place a living artistic stage: pictorial performances, moving tableaux, interactive video and photo installations, plastic installations, readings, songs, music, … offering the public their own artistic reading of the trail's locations," according to the "Ssilate" association. Coming mostly from creative backgrounds, this association aims, through the organisation of this type of event, "to build bridges, foster meetings and exchanges between the public and the cultural, artistic, creative, heritage, social, and environmental world of Morocco," the team in charge of organising the Tanger 2014 Artistic Trail wishes to clarify.
