Great performance for the Tanger Med port at the end of the first half of 2014: container traffic reached 1.5 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) containers. This is an increase of 24% compared to the same period in 2013. This was indicated by the Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA). According to the same source, traffic at the Renault vehicle terminal reached 94,500 units during the same period, including 79,500 produced at the Renault factory in Mellousa, an increase of 64% compared to the first half of 2013. For its part, the Common User terminal recorded traffic of 24,083 units during this half-year, an increase of 51% compared to the first half of 2013. Furthermore, it should be noted that the Tanger Med port has just been ranked by the British specialised magazine "Container Management" in 55th place worldwide out of 120 international ports in terms of container traffic importance. This feat, achieved thanks to the good performance of 2013, makes the Tanger Med port the 3rd African port after Port Said (Egypt) and the Port of Durban (South Africa), and the 7th Mediterranean port.
