The city of the Strait has just recorded significant progress in terms of road safety. The number of traffic accidents fell in 2013 by 8.5% in all four corners of Tangier. An encouraging assessment for the police, the other departments concerned, as well as civil society actors operating in the field of road safety. It remains that the Tangier residents are called upon to be even more aware of the dangers of the road and to be very careful. Furthermore, the Tangier police prefecture wishes to specify, through this annual report, that the efforts deployed by its traffic services and the development of road infrastructure helped, in 2013, to show a decrease of 1,713 road accidents, compared to 2012. Statistical data show 44 fatal accidents in the same urban territory, a very significant drop of 70% compared to a year earlier. While some 1,472 accidents were recorded there with minor injuries, a decrease of 0.5% compared to 2012. The same statistics show 102 accidents with serious injuries. This results in a slight increase of 2% compared to 2012. On the other hand, the number of traffic code violations recorded in 2013 by the traffic police reached 47,703 in all four corners of Tangier, compared to 33,142 in 2012. These contraventions, according to the same report, led, during the previous year, to the withdrawal of 11,894 driving licences by the traffic police. While the same services had withdrawn 9,793 in 2012. It should be noted that the traffic code violations observed in 2013 in Tangier led to the recording of 13 million dirhams in fines (compared to 9.5 million dirhams recorded in 2012). Let us underline that the same report states that the causes of road traffic accidents in Tangier remain the same as in the rest of the Kingdom, in particular speeding, drowsiness, driving under the influence of alcohol, or even the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
