The port of Tanger Med recorded a significant increase in its activities during the first quarter of 2014. Thus, container traffic increased by 30%, to stand at the end of the first quarter of 2014 at 735,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit), representing an increase of 5% compared to the last quarter of 2013. Concerning the new car activity which accompanies the growth of production at the Renault factory, the car terminal traffic stood at 43,700 units, of which 32,200 were produced in the Renault Mellousa factory, representing an increase of 68% compared to the same period in 2013. "The Common User terminal, which is beginning its second year of operation, recorded traffic of 7,200 units during this quarter, representing an increase of 32% compared to last year", specify the port authorities. Finally, the port of Tanger Med highlights that the Import-Export activity by International Road Transport (TIR) trucks also experienced growth during this first quarter of 2014, of 16% compared to the same period in 2013.
