Second media library of the Mohammed VI Foundation in Tangier

After Rabat, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Promotion of Social Works of Education-Training has chosen Tangier to host its second media library at the national level.

"The opening of this media library is part of the creation of a series of others planned to be realised within the various delegations in Morocco," indicates Rachid Belmokhtar, Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, during the inauguration ceremony of this media library organised on Wednesday, December 25.

Installed in the premises of the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah school, dating from the beginning of the 20th century, "the Tangier media library has the particularity of being realised in a historical building, where several generations were trained," affirms Youssef El Bakkali, coordinator of the Mohammed VI Foundation. And to add that "we wanted, thanks to this project, to give it a second life."

This historical building has benefited from major renovation and embellishment work, while keeping its old and beautiful architecture. Already having well-equipped classrooms on the ground floor intended for preschool-age children, this project required an investment of 11 million DH. "The Mohammed VI Foundation participates as much in the rehabilitation of Tangier's architectural heritage as in the development of the cultural and artistic offer at the local level," according to those responsible for the project.

Spanning an area of more than 4,000 m2, the new media library is intended in particular for members of the Mohammed VI Foundation and their families, but also for students with specific needs and local residents. It offers a multitude of services, including home loans and access to the educational software library and the video library. This establishment is distinguished, already, and from its commissioning, by a documentary collection of 13,000 documents, with a total capacity of 29,000, which can be consulted on paper and digital media as well as online.

In addition to a 190 m2 reading area, the new media library includes a kiosk (130 m2), allowing access to periodicals, a Braille space (56 m2) for the visually impaired, and a space for children (134 m2). To this are added two multimedia spaces (168 m2) and another for continuing education (56 m2).
