Having opened its doors in 1913, the Lycée Regnault stands out with its Arab-Moorish architectural style in one of the city's old European quarters. The festivities to celebrate the centenary of this French educational institution were distinguished, among other things, by art exhibitions, concerts, as well as the publication of a testimonial book "Our High School Years" and the creation of a song and a large sculpture.

"The long life of Lycée Regnault rests on a foundation of enduring universal values: tolerance, gender equality, respect for others," stated Annick Depardieu, principal of Lycée Regnault, during the official ceremony organised on Saturday, May 18, to celebrate this event.

Furthermore, the Lycée Regnault in Tangier is considered the oldest French educational institution in Morocco. Since its creation a century ago, this institution has welcomed generations of students, many of whom have become major figures such as the current Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Youssef Amrani, the 1987 Prix Goncourt winner Tahar Ben Jelloun, as well as the two famous Tangier-born screenwriters and filmmakers Farida Benlyazid and Jillali Ferhati.

"Many French educational institutions abroad, like this one, have accompanied the history of the countries in which they are located and have contributed to training generations of citizens, entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders," affirms Anne-Marie Descôtes, Director of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE).

This official continues that the French high school in Tangier has continued, over time, to be an institution of excellence and pedagogical innovation.

"Lycée Regnault is also a place of meeting, freedom, exchange, and friendship between our two countries, relying in particular on the Moroccan students who make up more than half of its staff," emphasises Ms. Descôtes.

This official ceremony was marked by several activities, including the unveiling of the centenary sculpture installed on the Lycée Regnault premises.

This beautiful sculpture is the work of the Tetouan-born painter Mustapha Failali, who has been teaching at this same institution since 1999. And to the great delight of the audience, the two artists Omar Mafoudi and Saïd Ouarzaz were able to create a beautiful fresco throughout the evening related to the theme of this event.
