Like the various regions across the Kingdom, the police force of the Tangier wilaya celebrated, on Thursday 16 May, with pride and joy, the 57th anniversary of the creation of the National Security. This annual commemorative ceremony was an opportunity, as it is every year, to take stock of the actions taken to fight against crime. Certainly, the Tangier police prefecture is experiencing constant optimisation of its human, material and logistical resources to ensure the safety of people and property throughout the territories that depend on it and are undergoing change at all levels. "All these efforts and achievements have enabled the Tangier police services to achieve good results in terms of fighting crime and organising the urban perimeter," stressed Mohamed Berqia, deputy prefect of police of Tangier, during the opening of the activities of this annual commemorative ceremony.
Furthermore, the latest statistical data provided for the occasion indicate that the services of the Tangier police prefecture have, since 15 May 2012, recorded more than 21,000 cases, of which nearly 19,000 have been processed. To this end, more than 18,000 people have been referred to justice to answer for their criminal acts. The Tangier police services managed, during the same period, to process a record number of nearly 1,300 cases of illegal immigration. The said services succeeded in processing approximately 2,300 cases related to drug trafficking and referred some 2,272 people involved in them. This made it possible to seize approximately 8.8 tonnes of chira. The police services also seized 279g of cocaine and approximately 200g of heroin. They also succeeded in seizing, during multiple operations carried out separately, some 6,204 psychotropic tablets as well as 43,842 packets of contraband cigarettes.
Let us highlight that the police services have multiplied, during the same period, raids on shisha cafes in the various neighbourhoods, which allowed them to seize 4,854 hookahs. And as every year, this annual commemorative ceremony ended with the presentation of royal wissams by Mohamed Yaakoubi, wali of the Tangier-Tetouan region, to officials of the services under the Tangier police prefecture.n
