The commune plans to increase the budget to support sport by nearly 2 million DH, to reach a total amount of 8 million DH. This was affirmed during a press conference organised on Monday, 15 April, for the presentation of the programming of a study day that will take place on 29 April, around the theme "The urban commune, an essential partner in sports development". According to Hassan Semlali, vice-president of the communal council, "the commune of Tangier provides significant financial support to the sports sector, estimated at 6 million DH. It plans to increase this budget to reach a total of 8 million DH".
Furthermore, the activities of this study day will take place at the new Tangier stadium. Through this study day, the organisers seek to create a space for exchange and communication between the various actors to discuss the problems from which sport in general suffers. Initiated by the urban commune of Tangier, this event will have as its main objective to study the means to be implemented for the rehabilitation of the sector, to open up to other national initiatives and experiences or other countries, and to seize investment opportunities in the sector. "The sports sector is called upon to develop to be up to the expectations of the population and to be able to accompany the great economic development that Tangier is experiencing", explains the mayor of Tangier, Fouad El Omari.
Scheduled to be chaired by Mohamed Ouzzine, Minister of Youth and Sports, this event will see, according to the organisers, the participation of nearly 350 actors and professionals to discuss the sports situation in Tangier and to conclude their debates with recommendations relating to the theme of this study day. The preparations for this event lasted more than a year in the form of twelve working meetings held by the preparatory committee, which is composed of representatives of the communal council, the two provincial delegations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Tangier-Asilah and Fahs-Anjra, the Ministry of National Education, and Sonarges, the company in charge of managing the new stadium.
It is to be recalled that the urban commune of Tangier allocated for the 2013 budget year a budget of 6.5 million DH to support local sports associations. It granted for the same financial year an amount of 2 million DH to social associations and 1.5 million DH to cultural associations.
