Municipal councillor prosecuted for contempt of court

The public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Tangier decided on Thursday to prosecute a member of the Tangier urban commune while in a state of release on bail for contempt of court.
Municipal councillor prosecuted for contempt of court

According to a judicial source, the municipal councillor will be prosecuted in accordance with Article 263 of the Penal Code, after acting in a manner considered insulting to the court when he was heard as a witness on Wednesday in a traffic accident case.

The public prosecutor also decided to prosecute another person in a state of arrest—a man involved in the accident—who made accusations against the magistrates during the session.

The judge in charge of the case had reminded the municipal councillor of the need to respect the judiciary before deciding to interrupt the session following the reaction of the councillor and the second individual.

The accused will be questioned by the judicial police before being presented to the public prosecutor.
