The 1st edition of the Tangier Architecture Days opened on Thursday, with the participation of architects and urban planning experts from about thirty countries, who will discuss the issues related to mobility in urban space.

The opening session of this meeting, dedicated to young architects and organised by the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Tangier, was marked by the screening of a documentary on the problems of mobility within the city of Tangier, a city that has experienced strong urban expansion in recent decades.

The speakers during a debate held after this screening stressed the need to place mobility at the centre of any urban policy, by anticipating future needs in terms of transport means and road axes, while taking into consideration the enhancement of the urban fabric and the vital spaces of the city.

These Tangier Architecture Days aim to stimulate a debate on an international scale on architecture and urban planning in their human and sustainable dimensions, as well as to promote the exchange of experiences and ideas between architects from Morocco and their counterparts from other countries.

On the sidelines of this event, the International Union of Architects (UIA) held the annual meeting of the Professional Practice Commission in Tangier. This commission conducts work on the practice of the architectural profession, which has led to the publication of the UIA accords, references that establish the broad outlines of professional practice worldwide.

For its part, the Union of African Architects (UAA) also held several meetings on this occasion, including that of the Vision and Strategy Committee for Africa and that of the Continuing Education Committee for Africa.
