The delegated company for the distribution of drinking water, electricity and sanitation in Tangier, Amendis, affirms its commitment to the social connection programme. This programme was launched in 2006 in favour of the disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Tangier. "Since the signing of the delegated management contract in 2002, Veolia Environnement Maroc, through Amendis which is its subsidiary in Tangier, has developed, in collaboration with the delegating authority, an ambitious programme of social connections aimed at generalising access to our water, electricity and sanitation services to improve the living conditions of low-income populations," indicated the operations director of Amendis, Benoît Destremeau, during a visit organised on Wednesday 28 January to the Aouama Gharbia neighbourhood, one of the twenty neighbourhoods benefiting from this programme and whose work for its connection to the water and sanitation network is currently being carried out. The social connection programme - which runs until 2010 - is the result of a framework agreement signed between Amendis and the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH). Since its launch thirty-six months ago, Amendis has connected some 7,367 needy households to the drinking water and sanitation networks, representing a population of 36,830 people. These social connection operations required a total investment of 122 million DH. Some 20 disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the city of Tangier have been equipped as part of this programme. Let us add to this 13 neighbourhoods that are in the connection phase and 17 others are the subject of study in coordination with other partners of the delegated company for the distribution of drinking water, electricity and sanitation in Tangier. This brings the total number of neighbourhoods benefiting from this programme to 50 and 18,605 lots intended for these social connection operations, i.e., 93% of the objective of this framework agreement. To this end, 27 km of liquid sanitation collectors and 30 km of drinking water pipes have been installed. The households benefiting from this social connection programme only pay the sum of 12,631.58 DH (instead of more than 23,000 DH), payable at a rate of 105.26 DH per month for ten years. Furthermore, this project provides, within the framework of this framework agreement, for the completion of 45,000 drinking water and sanitation connections for a total budget of 1.042 billion DH. The delegated company for the distribution of drinking water, electricity and sanitation in Tangier has committed to connecting 24,000 households to the water and sanitation networks by 2010. Since 2002, Amendis has connected 9,970 households to the water and sanitation networks in Tangier.
