The Regional Fair of the Craft Industry has once again placed its stands in the city of Mohammedia. This event, which runs until the end of August, aims to promote products of Moroccan craftsmanship, witnesses to a millennial civilisation and culture. The 2014 edition, which is being held at the Place des Villes Jumelées, once again puts craftsmanship at the centre of development issues. This fair, the first of its kind in Mohammedia, is organised by the Chamber of Crafts of the Greater Casablanca region with the support of the Maison de l'Artisan, the regional directorate of crafts and the municipal council and the prefecture of Mohammedia. This fair has given the city a particular appeal, notably at the Place des Villes Jumelées which lives to the rhythm of the event with 80 stands of various designs where various craft products are exhibited. Leather products, wood, wrought iron, pottery, traditional costumes, carpets, plaster decorations, reeds, tiles and works of art... are proudly exhibited by artisans in competition to highlight their works. For the great happiness of visitors, and especially lovers of local crafts, the fair presents products breathing both tradition and modernity. One finds there the different facets of the artisan's trade. The public thus has the opportunity to better know the craftsmanship of various regions of the Kingdom and to discover the know-how and mastery of a noble and oh-so-authentic art. This event is part of the vision for the development of crafts and efforts aimed at promoting the products of a sector in full mutation. "This event," underlines Mustapha Harakat, president of the Chamber of Crafts of the Greater Casablanca region, "aims to consolidate the identity of Moroccan craft products. Its objective is to be able to generate positive results capable of giving Moroccan craftsmanship all its splendour." "I am surprised by the variety of craft products exhibited, their price and the complaisance and patience of the exhibitors. This fair has revealed to us Moroccan craftsmanship, the dexterity of the artisans and their know-how," underlines a French visitor. "An effort must, however, be made for marketing and to encourage the artisans." Be that as it may, this fair has aroused the admiration of visitors. An admiration that translates into an enthusiasm for art objects in particular. For the duration of this exceptional exhibition, the Place des Villes Jumelées has been transformed into a true art gallery where craft products of all kinds are exhibited. The participation of representatives of several Chambers of Crafts, notably those of Casablanca, Agadir, Meknès, Fès and Smara, has given an appeal to this fair which stands out for its diversity.
