"Dakira" was created to celebrate the commemoration of the historic visit on 25 June 1960 by

the late H.M. Mohammed V to Fedala (Mohammedia). A visit during which the laying of the 1st stone for the construction of the Samir refinery was carried out and the late H.M. Mohammed V had baptised Mohammedia in place of Fedala. Another stage then began for this young city which has today become a prefecture draining increasingly important economic activities. "Dakira" is organised by the urban commune of Mohammedia with the support of the Ministry of the Interior and the prefecture of Mohammedia. During a press briefing, the organisers stressed the importance of this historic commemoration for which a rich and varied programme of multiple activities has been developed. From 25 to 31 August 2014, the city offers its visitors and inhabitants artistic evenings hosted by Nas El Ghiwane – Daoudi, Jiljilala, Damou group, Tagada as well as laughter with Souileh, Safaj and M'hiwal. Children will be spoiled with entertainment, games, educational and fun workshops. The programme, the organisers stressed, includes an opening ceremony of the festivities on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the proclamation of the name of the city of Mohammedia. On this occasion, a commemorative plaque is revealed to the public in order to remember the historic date of 25 June 1960. This commemorative plaque is located at the roundabout facing the town hall. The fantasia will take place next to the Bachir Stadium to perpetuate an ancestral tradition and preserve our identity. The fantasia attracts millions of people: the horse, man's companion, companion of conquests and animal of prestige, is a symbol of culture. Horse races and shots from old rifles recalling a glorious past. A horse festival to honour the solid and deep bond that has always united man and the Arab horse. Numerous questions were asked about the need to perpetuate such an event and innovate by providing more cultural meetings. The safeguarding of the city's memory and its heritage wealth was mentioned. The budget for this week is around 110 million centimes. All remarks were taken into consideration. The objective, according to Mohammed Mfadel, president of the urban commune of Mohammedia, is to remember the historic visit of the late H.M. Mohammed V to Mohammedia. "Dakira Mohammedia" has set itself the objective of giving more value and durability to Mohammedia, to its history, to its heritage and to the historic visits that have been carried out. The programme of this cultural heritage week is to place Mohammedia at the centre of development issues. "Dakira" is and will be an unmissable event that is committed to ensuring its presence in a city that welcomes it by offering a programme of varied activities capable of marking the City of Flowers with an imprint of joy."
