The first half of the year marked by the questioning of 22,338 individuals

The actions carried out by the prefectural police aim to deter delinquents and other criminals in order to reduce the phenomenon of insecurity, the objective being to ensure respect for the law, the preservation of order, and the peace of mind of citizens. In this perspective, from 1 to 30 June 2014, the actions of the prefectural police elements led to the questioning of 22,338 people and the processing of 2,785 cases. At the same time, 2,895 people were arrested and brought to justice. Similarly, 49 fraud cases and 393 cases involving theft and burglary were resolved. As for the criminal cases settled, their number is 2,785, with drug-related cases numbering around 435. Regarding vehicle and moped checks, operations have multiplied, leading to the issuing of 5,748 tickets for vehicles and 1,398 for mopeds. The number of accidents is 513, resulting in 3 deaths, 426 minor injuries, and 13 in serious condition. The amount of fixed fines totalled 2.16 million dirhams. The number of National Identity Cards (CIN) issued is 24,995, while the number of anthropometric records is 9,259. In the context of the fight against drugs, up to the end of June 2014, 175 psychotropic tablets were seized, in addition to 21 kg of chira, more than 5 kg of tobacco, 379 bottles of wine, and 404 packets of cigarettes. Regarding the year 2013, the Mohammedia police services, all corps combined, had their work cut out for them. Indeed, this year was marked by the questioning of 40,955 people and the processing of 6,532 cases. In the process, 6,312 individuals were arrested and referred to justice. In the same context, police elements solved several cases of theft (743) and fraud (88). Regarding criminality, 6,532 cases were resolved. As for the fight against drugs, some 695 cases were processed, relating to both trafficking and consumption. The elements of the relevant brigade seized 14 kg of chira, 648 psychotropic tablets, 106 kg of kif, 6 kg of "maajoun", and 1 kg of tobacco. "This finding," affirms a police officer, "should alleviate the feeling of insecurity among the inhabitants." At the same time, in the context of the fight against the scourge of road insecurity, police elements checked 27,850 vehicles and mopeds in 2013. In this lot, 2,023 vehicles and 2,222 mopeds were ticketed. In the same context, the number of accidents recorded was 1,029 in 2013. They caused 18 deaths, 743 minor injuries, and 59 serious ones. Among the causes of these accidents, we find non-compliance with the Highway Code and the irresponsible behaviour of some road users. Furthermore, the amount of fixed fines recorded in 2013 is around 2.5 million dirhams. The number of National Identity Cards (CIN) produced in 2013 is 44,889 and that of anthropometric records is 15,587. Many factors are behind the resurgence of delinquency in Mohammedia, notably poverty, unemployment, population growth, and rural exodus. Surveillance cameras in the city: Among the items on the agenda of the October 2012 session of the city council was the cooperation agreement between the urban commune of Mohammedia and the prefectural police. A budget was reserved for this agreement, which will span 3 years, for a budget of 5 million dirhams financed by the commune (1 million in 2013, 2 million in 2014, and 1 million in 2015). The agreement covers the acquisition of mopeds, in addition to the installation of surveillance cameras in various points of the city. This will contribute to greater efficiency in the fight against delinquency.
