Beyond the effects of pollution, the seaside resort has committed itself to the protection of its environment, developing development and cleaning actions to improve the quality of its facilities and ensure the cleanliness of the beaches. In this context, numerous actions have been carried out by the relevant services and other corporate citizens to promote the attractiveness of bathing areas. The objective is to reposition Mohammedia in the niche of a new seaside and leisure tourism, capable of contributing to its socio-economic development. The development of the beaches has continued to enhance these leisure areas (quality of bathing water, safety, hygiene, transport, etc.). These efforts were crowned with success since in 2011 and 2012 the Sablettes beach was awarded the "Blue Flag" label. An encouraging distinction, but one heavy with meaning and responsibility. It is a project that had to continue in order to preserve this achievement and rehabilitate the other beaches of Mohammedia. Nevertheless, the same momentum has not been maintained, since since 2012, no beach in the City of Flowers has been able to win the famous coveted label. This state of affairs can have several explanations. The shoreline of some beaches has been altered by problems related to cleanliness, seaside commerce, parking, safety, lack of entertainment, etc. "The absence of a sewage treatment plant, combined with the uncivil behaviour of some holidaymakers, in addition to poor environmental management, has meant that the beaches have entered a cycle of regrettable and dangerous degradation," points out this association member. Also, in order to remedy these problems that harm the reputation of Mohammedia's beaches, the most important thing is to coordinate efforts for the safeguarding of the entire coastline and by enhancing the corniche. In the same vein, it is necessary to do everything possible, in particular the necessary human and material resources, in order to improve summer holiday conditions. Everyone must invest more in the safeguarding of all the city's beaches. Similarly, to contribute to the success of this mission, it is proving beneficial to forge partnerships between local communes, civil society and corporate citizens interested in safeguarding the environment. To this end, all criteria must be taken into account, namely monitoring the quality of bathing water, infrastructure development, strengthening the transport network, organising parking, traffic flow, ease of access to beaches, banning horse rentals, controlling seaside commerce, entertainment, safety, marking the areas concerned, communication and awareness-raising signs. The task seems arduous, certainly, but it remains possible and achievable thanks to the mobilisation of all parties concerned, starting with the holidaymakers.
