The University of Mohammedia celebrates cultural diversity

In the framework of its cultural activities, the Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University is organising, with the support of the Confederation of Foreign African Students and Trainees in Morocco in Mohammedia, on April 26 at the Municipal Theatre of Mohammedia, the fourth edition of the “Heritage of Civilisations” Day. This year, this meeting will be held under the theme “Heritage, a factor of integration”. A plural event dedicated to the promotion and celebration of the diversity and cultural specificities of each of the countries associated with this event. Ambassadors from African countries, city authorities, officials, teacher-researchers, and staff of the Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University, Moroccan and foreign students will be present for a cultural promotion in a spirit of peace, solidarity, and integration. This event has as objectives the promotion of the culture of the participating countries, exchanges between students, and the strengthening of cooperation ties between Arab-Muslim and African countries.

The “Heritage of Civilisations” event is intended as a bridge of meeting, fraternity, and peace between all the students of the University, and those who have come from other countries. Its role consists of reflecting the entire civilisational and cultural Arab-Muslim and African dimension through songs, music, dances, parades of traditional outfits, conferences, and exhibitions of art objects.

The programme for this day also includes musical entertainment, choreographic performances, exhibitions of art objects, as well as parades of traditional clothes from each participating country. All presented in a festive setting by students from here and elsewhere. More than 30 foreign countries will take part in this event. For interculturality and the dialogue of civilisations, the Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University has made available to each participating country a stand to present and promote its culture to the participants throughout this event.

A way to promote the values of fraternity and solidarity and to consolidate the fundamentals of integration.

A diversified cultural programming: For the 2013/2014 academic year, the Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University has planned a rich and diversified cultural programme. Thus, in the framework of the cycle of open conferences, the University invites personalities from the socio-economic and political fabric who lead conferences for the benefit of students.

Furthermore, the “Student Spring” event is an annual event that brings together the best artistic and cultural performances of students, validated by a commission designated for this purpose. It includes theatre, music, singing, poetry, painting... All the best performances are awarded during the “Student Spring”. The programming is decided jointly with the coordinators of cultural activities at the level of the establishments falling under the University. In another register, the University also organises the Casablanca International University Theatre Festival (FITUC).

This event provides for theatrical performances given by university troupes from several countries alongside Moroccan university and professional troupes. It aims to better involve national troupes and to favour the promotion of university theatre.
