After France, Belgium, China, Russia, and Portugal, it is the turn of the elected officials of the city of Kanifing, in the Republic of The Gambia, to visit Mohammedia to conclude a decentralised cooperation agreement.

During a ceremony at the commune headquarters, marked by the presence of Salem Ali Sheggaf, governor of Mohammedia, Lamin Kabba Bajo, ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia, local authorities, elected officials, and numerous personalities, a twinning agreement was signed between the urban commune of Mohammedia, represented by its president, Mohamed M'Fadel, and the city of Kanifing, in the person of its mayor, Yankuba Colley. This twinning concerns many areas and aims to better exploit the potential for cooperation between the two cities. Mohamed M'Fadel and Yankuba Colley highlighted in their speeches the importance of decentralised cooperation and its contribution to local development through an exchange of experiences in the economic, cultural, sporting, environmental, and urban planning fields, as well as in the management of local affairs.

The assets of the two cities should notably favour the realisation of useful and productive projects capable of meeting the expectations of the populations of both cities. It should be noted that several meetings were held between the elected officials of Mohammedia and Kanifing, during which opportunities to strengthen cooperation ties to safeguard the history of the two cities, enhance their partnership, and preserve achievements were highlighted.

During their stay, the Kanifing delegation visited certain neighbourhoods of Mohammedia; they also held working meetings with business leaders of the seaside city.

Guided tours were organised, notably to the corniche, the theatre, the media library, the Essaâda and Redouane mosques, the construction site of the Great Mosque of Mohammedia, and the Koutoubia group. The delegation also performed Friday prayers at the Kasbah mosque. Morocco and The Gambia are two countries that share the same concerns, convinced of the virtues of cooperation and partnership. They are called upon to take advantage of the opportunities offered at this level.
