The oldest fountain in Mohammedia has been refurbished. The objective of this operation is to create a synergy between tourism promotion and the safeguarding of the city's heritage. The renovation, covered by the municipality, concerned the marble cladding, a space for the hydraulic system, a device ensuring parabolic effects and cascades of the fountain as well as lighting by submerged spotlights. These works required a budget of one million dirhams. Despite this action, it must be admitted that Mohammedia suffers from a deficit in this area. The city has only three fountains. "We take little care of the city's heritage, yet the creation of new fountains would offer inhabitants and visitors attractive walking spaces," laments a resident of Mohammedia. The fountain of the Place de la Marche Verte, erected in the centre of the city in front of the ramparts and the gate of the Kasbah, has experienced multiple problems that have exasperated the inhabitants. The work had been very delayed. This situation had a negative impact on the aesthetics of the square and traffic.

Other works have recently been undertaken to ensure the drainage of overflow water with a marking system for the protection of the fountain. For the president of the Kasbah Association, the seaside city offers a multitude of places and buildings that are not valued, to which is added an inexplicable lack of fountains: "Urban planning plans should in principle integrate the creation of fountains, but also the enhancement of the heritage wealth of Mohammedia and its region". It is difficult for the seaside city to fill certain gaps in order to reposition itself in the niche of a privileged tourist destination. To achieve this, it will have to commit more to upgrading its infrastructure, developing and enhancing its sites. As paradoxical as it may seem, some buildings in the city and old urban fabrics having historical and architectural interest have been forgotten and have not, despite the promises made, been rehabilitated to strengthen the inhabitants' sense of belonging to their city and associate its development with its heritage. The situation of some old buildings and structures calls on the services concerned to reconcile Mohammedia with its history. The renovation of the oldest fountain in Mohammedia is a commendable action that should extend to the other riches of the city such as the old water tower of Mohammedia located in the Bellevue district. Designed by Eduardo Torroga and Miret, this unique monument overlooks the city and is distinguished by a particular architecture with a reservoir in the shape of a spherical couple and a double-couple covering slab.

Fountains and water basins are for cities in full demographic growth synonymous with a human dimension, a desire to rebuild the social fabric through the development of living spaces. Public gardens, squares, esplanades, forecourts, courtyards, and facades are all places where a fountain or a water basin brings urban populations together. In Mohammedia, the inhabitants lack this type of space to meet and enjoy their city.
