The Marche Verte square at a standstill

The Marche Verte square in the centre of the lower town of Mohammedia, long marginalised from development policies, has benefited from a redevelopment operation. The objective of this operation is to integrate tourism promotion efforts with the safeguarding of the city's heritage. In addition to the redevelopment of the square, a fountain has been erected to give a soul to the centre of Mohammedia.

"These redevelopments have not solved the problems; they have accentuated those of mobility and traffic, the prohibition in one direction of certain important axes such as the FAR, Bir Anzarane, Abderrahmane Serghini boulevards and Nador and Mansour Eddahbi streets. Motorists are confronted with serious problems in moving around more easily," underlines a resident of Mohammedia.

Parking

In addition to the problem of movement at the level of the Green March square, which has become cramped, the inhabitants also mention the concern of parking and the behaviour of certain road users, notably small taxi drivers. Some of the latter occupy the road by parking without any respect for the Highway Code. The fountain erected at the level of the Green March square, which has not been working for a few days, has sparked numerous reactions. For this associative actor, the upgrading of the city is dependent on the resolution of numerous constraints as well as the rehabilitation of credibility in municipal management. Today, the inhabitants are calling for an upgrading of the Green March square without forgetting the developments in green spaces, adapted lighting, and above all an integration of the square into its environment.
