The Minister of Equipment and Transport, Aziz Rebbah, recently visited the construction site in Mohammedia for the parking area for gas transport trucks located in the oil district. This project consists of setting up a modern parking area dedicated to gas transport vehicles in order to manage the flow of these trucks within the city of Mohammedia and avoid risks to the population. As a reminder, the residents of the Essaâda and Hassania districts, and the Moukawama and Cadi Tazi boulevards, had already reported the illegal parking of certain large, high-risk vehicles loaded with sensitive products, which posed serious dangers.
"The development of this parking area will reduce the risk of accidents and preserve the environment. It will also help reassure local residents," indicates a municipal official in Mohammedia. This project, which will cover 20,000m2, will have a capacity of 200 trucks. Its implementation requires a total cost of 11.2 million dirhams. According to the project managers, the work is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2012. The Autoroutes du Maroc company is also participating in this project. In this context, it has undertaken work to raise several structures, notably bridges, to allow large vehicles to use certain routes without risk.
During his visit to Mohammedia, the Minister also inaugurated several infrastructures intended to contribute to better traffic flow and road safety. He thus inaugurated the development work of two roundabouts on national road No. 1.
These works will contribute to better organisation of road traffic and could also improve road safety conditions.
The two projects, carried out at two different points on national road No. 1, required a budget of 6 million dirhams.
It should be noted that despite the efforts made, road safety remains dependent on good infrastructure, appropriate signage, and better control. The continuation of prevention and control actions remains the basis of any effort aimed at optimising the impact on behaviour and attitudes in the road space. "What is happening on our roads reminds us of the need to continue to wage a ceaseless battle where the stakes to be protected and preserved are human lives," concludes an official from Mohammedia.
As part of the National Road Safety Day celebrated recently, Mohammedia saw the organisation of numerous cultural and artistic activities in certain schools to raise students' awareness of the issue of road accidents and to instil in them a culture of "road safety". Other similar actions were organised in the city's main squares.
These included drawing exhibitions, conferences, competitions, and courses on the new highway code.
