Customs services in Tétouan, under the supervision of the regional director of customs in the same city, managed to seize a significant quantity of smuggled molasses in the Oued Maleh area in the city of Martil, which was on its way to be promoted in shisha bars and cafes in the area and its surroundings.
Hespress sources explained that the quantity of smuggled molasses seized reached half a tonne; it was hidden inside a garage used by the suspect for raising chickens, stating that in addition to seizing the aforementioned goods, a light vehicle used by the person concerned for distribution was also seized.
The same sources added that the competent public prosecutor's office, after hearing the suspect, decided to place him in the local prison in Tétouan, stressing that the person concerned was placing his goods in a chicken-raising garage, in an attempt to camouflage and hide the smell of the molasses with the smells of poultry, and he also confessed to practising this activity for more than a year.
In a related context, Hespress sources reported that the customs services in the Tétouan province carried out more than 156 operations in 2024, which resulted in the seizure of more than 6 tonnes of smuggled molasses, especially at the Bab Sebta border point, pointing to the intensification of surveillance at various other border points, Tangier Med and Guerguerat.
