Le festival de Souk-El Arbaa reste un Moussem malgré tout

Le festival de Souk-El Arbaa reste un Moussem malgré tout

As usual, summer is the time for festivals in almost every city in Morocco. For the first time, Souk-el Arbaa also had the privilege of living to the rhythm of music for three days from Thursday 29 August to Saturday.

The organisers thought of everything; inviting stars of popular music, bringing in many horsemen with their beautiful horses, mobilising hundreds of security agents, except for choosing the location of the event well!!!

At the opening of the festival, Wali Zineb El Adaoui and the officials accompanying her attended the flag raising and the singing of the national anthem. The horsemen with their beautiful clothes and their well-decorated horses of multiple colours made their mkahal of baroud explode in an atmosphere of joy and admiration for their performance.

Visitors from the surrounding areas and nearby Douars came in large numbers to contemplate the fantasia and this disrupted traffic at the exit of the city on the road to Kssar el Kebir. Travellers spent an hour and a half stuck in their cars for a few minutes of passage. Ghrbawa, who are used to the moussems, occupied the national road and admired the fantasia scene in their own way, the smoke of the baroud mixed with the smoke of the kafta that emanated from the scattered tents.

At sunset, a sea of people suddenly left the fantasia to go to the city centre to occupy the front rows to attend the Tagada evening. Women, men, children, babies, pushchairs, tricycles, tractors, lorries, cars, everything is moving!!! The security agents are overwhelmed, everyone is shouting.

During the evening, the music of the groups mixes with the sirens of the ambulance and the van. The pleasure of enjoying the music is difficult; first of all, the podium is not at the right level for the spectators and the location in the middle of the main road is not a good thing, only a part of the visitors can follow the evening. Furthermore, changing the destination of the main road caused constraints for passing travellers, especially at night.

Fights, punches, sticks, cars or what I call the four-wheeled bar circulated in all directions because it is by indulging in their little bottles that some celebrate the moussems. The festival knows neither order nor concept.

The choice of location is behind this, not to mention the dissatisfaction of the inhabitants who saw the organisation of this festival as a cover for an early election campaign because the city lacks priority projects (such as cleanliness in the neighbourhoods, the holes that decorated the avenues, the planting of trees which remains absent, the resolution of the drinking water problem...) and not expensive moments of entertainment to the voice of 3tabou, the young Rrouicha or the comedian Khayari who disappointed and disturbed the city officials of the roses with his column!!!
