Screening campaign for chronic kidney diseases

With a view to providing more support to the most vulnerable segments of the population in the Southern provinces, the Moroccan Association for Medical Support in Laâyoune, Masoum, will lead the 4th edition of the screening and awareness campaign in Laâyoune on 7, 8 and 9 March 2012.
Screening campaign for chronic kidney diseases

This initiative is part of its policy of bringing medical care closer to the most destitute population.

In order to achieve its objectives, Masoum has set up a programme for this edition in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the nephrology department of the Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat, and in collaboration with the wilaya and the regional council of Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra, the National Initiative for Human Development, the municipality of Laâyoune, the Moroccan Federation of Associations for the Support of Kidney Failure Patients and Organ Transplantation (FMAIRTO), the Phosboucraa company, as well as private laboratories (HEMOLAB, SOPHADIAL).

The programme implemented includes 2 main axes, free screening and awareness-raising for the general public.

Regarding the first axis, the association will organise screening days against the causes leading to kidney failure from 7 to 9 March 2012, in Laâyoune, at the Oum Saad cultural centre. This free screening policy led by Masoum since 2009 will mainly concern, as every year: blood pressure and weight measurement, urine dipstick control, blood test for blood sugar and creatinine dosage, as well as care for those diagnosed as ill by endocrinologists. This screening operation will take place with the assistance of 16 resident doctors and under the control of 2 professors from the Ibn Sina University Hospital (CHU) in Rabat.

In addition to free screening, the Masoum Association will organise an awareness day for the general public against kidney failure, on Friday 9 March at 5:30 p.m. at the Palais des congrès in Laâyoune, in the presence of Prof. Benamar Loubna from the Rabat University Hospital, a specialist in peritoneal dialysis, Prof. Rhou Hakima, a specialist in organ transplantation as well as the president of the FMAIRTO Federation and an official from the Ministry of Health. During this day, the speakers will focus on kidney transplantation and kidney donation and the president of the Masoum Association will present the results of previous campaigns and the conclusions drawn from these last 3 events.
